Dead Before Daylight is an Alternate Universe Urban Fantasy role play in a world where supernatural creatures and humans exist side by side – at least, some of them do. Creatures like witches, pixies and satyrs live and work as openly as any human. They commonly hold positions of power in government and are afforded every right and protection.

Other creatures are not so lucky. Those believed threats to humankind and other benign creatures are still persecuted and oppressed. Beings like vampires and werewolves are still forced to live largely in hiding, as they are not afforded the protections of law.

Such blacklisted creatures have created a haven for themselves in the small city of Dawnbreak; but their sanctuary is becoming increasingly threatened by the arrival of outsiders. In the meantime a menacing power is lurking in the forests and increasingly beginning to threaten the town as people begin to go missing, and mangled bodies are beginning to be discovered in and around the woodlands.

Height: 5'2ft
Weight: 97lbs
The most dominant feature of Shinju is her porcelain skin and platnium hair, which contrasts exotically with her Asian traits. Born as an albino, her skin is so pale faint lilac veins can been seen underneath in some places and even her eyelashes are talc. Her hooded eyes are merlot in hue, the irises transparent without their pigment and the blood within tinting them.
She is petite, her slender frame lithe and sculpted like that of a gymnast. She has delicate wrists, ankles and elegant, slender fingers which are always manicured.
Her white hair is long and silken straight, falling to the middle of her back. She will sometimes style it into curls but in general she maintains a neat veil. Never seen without artistically applied makeup, Shinju emphasizes her unique eyes by painting the lashes dark and keeps blushes, eyeshadow and lipstick to a minimum in neutral colors.
She speaks very softly and her mezo soprano voice is heavily accented.
Japanese vulpine are smaller, with a longer coat and fur tips upon their ears.
Her coat is pure white with a long, flowing outer layer and exposed skin such as the pads of her paws or her nose are pink. Similar to her human counterpart, in fox form her eyes are deep red.

Raised within a strictly traditional environment and held to immaculate standards, Shinju is a poised and restrained young woman who carries herself with cautious grace.
Taciturn, introverted and cagey by default, she is congenial and polite when necessary, but there is an detachment to her demeanor which warns that social persona may be smoke and mirrors . After the events of her past, her suspicion of others has grown into a mild paranoia.
Priding herself on her composure, Shinju does not show strong emotion publicly and can come across to some as aloof. Her manners are highly formal and she does not raise her voice, nor insult even her enemies.
Another side to her is shown in the face of violence; the darkness underneath her meticulously crafted mask reveals itself as a ruthless, efficient killer no one would expect. The geisha becomes the assassin and dispatches her target with quick strokes before just as easily slipping back into her usual cordial manner.
Despite her prowess, Shinju does not seek violence and will respond only if attacked first, following a strict code of honor.

Born during the first Spring thaw, Shinju is one half of identical twin daughters to Arashi-heika, oyabun of the Fujiwara-No-Daichi Clan and his wife, Chiatsu-denka. They are the first pure-blood werefox twins within the clan for generations and given their unique genetic mutations, were also seen as sacred personifications of ancient kami.

Shinju-hime was as pale as fallen snow, while her sister, Kaede bore hair the color of maple leaves and skin like honey. Both girls had blood red eyes, the only thing about their coloration that was similar.
Unfortunately Chiatsu passed away shortly after their birth and so they grew up under the lone, iron hand of their father. Isolated within the Konohanasakuya-hime Shrine at the base of Mt Fuji, deep within Aoikgahara Forest, the Fujiwara-No-Daichi Clan have been caretakers and shrine-maidens of the temple for centuries, secretly maintaining one of the largest skulks in Japan.
Comprising of extended family, the skulk is over one hundred strong and the entire community lives a private life away from society. The largest percentage are humans, while over a third are pure-blood werefoxes, not including a small group of those who became lycans through infection.
They follow a caste system within the clan; the humans do many of the day to day chores around the Shrine and are the most often seen, the less powerful infected Omega foxes blending into this role and through into the more privileged pure-blood class. Pure-bloods hold respect and power in the Clan, with the oyabun and his mate being the strongest Alphas. However since his wife's death, Arashi did not take another mate and ruled alone.
In stark contrast to this anachronistic and traditional life in the wilderness the Fujiwara-No-Daichi Clan are also known among human society as one of the strongest Yakuza syndicates. Although the criminal side of the clan's empire is handled mostly by the pure-bloods, as well as any lycan political clashes.
It was within this strange duality of ancient temples, tea ceremonies, dark nightclub private rooms and cocaine shipments that Shinju and Kaede were raised. They were tutored by the finest instructors, undertaking the training of a geisha- for they were expected to be the epitome of grace, elegance and conduct themselves like living works of art. Simultaneously learning deadly martial arts, they had to be as deadly as they were mesmerizing. Arashi molded them into his personal bodyguards, two beautiful kunoichi by his side, demanding only perfection from his daughters in all aspects.
The oyabun also encouraged fierce competition between the twins from a young age. A stern man not prone to personable ways, he would notably gift affection upon whichever daughter pleased him the most, scorning the other coldly and thus breeding bitter resentment. Kaede became obsessed with outshining her sister and strove to please their father with her every breath.
By the time they had become adolescents, Shinju and Kaede had practically become enemies. Both foxes were proving to be powerful, becoming Alphas in their own right by the time they were eighteen. Shinju exceeded her sister in battle tactics, sidestepping her vicious attacks calmly nearly every time, which infuriated Kaede. She knew she could not beat her sister on a level playing field and so Kaede became cunning, attempting to sabotage her sister every chance she had or bring disgrace upon her infront of their father.
Shinju believed that the Clan should remain isolated and maintain their secrecy from both the Humans and other were-species, wishing to maintain their sanctuary at the Shrine. She took heed of the old scrolls which recounted the terrible culling of their kind by the majo...
But Kaede hungered for power. She argued that the Clan had stayed in the shadows long enough and that it was their right as one of the largest and oldest skulks to lead the other werefoxes. She spoke of breaking the thousand year truce with the wereravens and bringing the wererats under their rules as slaves.
Her sister warned such action would bring the hunter's attention upon their kind again and they would be risking another genocide. Shinju sensed the growing malcontent forming around Kaede as others agreed with her sentiments, but she never suspected how far her twin would go...
When Shinju and Kaede accompanied the oyabun to Tokyo to watch over him during business negotiations with a rival Yakuza syndicate, betrayal was carved into her soul forever.
In the middle of the night Shinju heard sounds of struggle coming from inside the penthouse and immediately went to her father's room.
There she found him dead in his bed, Kaede standing over him with a tanto dagger in her hand. Before she had the chance to process her shock and anguish, her sister came at Shinju next. They fought briefly before the scuffle attracted the oyabun's entourage and the sound them beating at the penthouse door signaled judgement for Kaede.
But as her Clansmen burst into the penthouse Kaede grinned wickedly at her sister... and plunged the dagger into her own stomach.
Kaede sunk to her knees beside the crimson soaked bed, coughing on her own blood but still able to scream and wail in anguish. She shrieked that her sister had killed the Arashi-heika and tried to murder her as well.
Shinju began to deny the accusation, but the scene of carnage in the penthouse drowned out her protests and the guardsmen turned on their princess. Rather than hurt her own kin, Shinju chose to flee, leaping through the penthouse window.
Now an accused traitor, it was mere hours before the hunt was on and Tokyo became flooded with werefoxes seeking to claim the head of their former beloved wakagashira. Shinju was forced to leave the city when she could no longer avoid her Clansmen, but the respite was short-ived.
For weeks she was nomadic, hiding in isolated towns from Kyushu to Hokkaido, but the Fujiwara-No-Daichi were relentless. Incensed by the lies of Kaede, they pursued her across the Korea Strait as Shinju fled her homeland, but at last they could not follow her deeper into the continent as they were forced to retreat from China when the weretigers enforced their territory.
Shinju took the opportunity to put distance between herself and the Clan while they regrouped, knowing Kaede would not give up so easily...
She randomly chose a remote location from a map, using chance to her advantage and ultimately began moving towards America...
For months Shinju wandered the U.S, staying away from capital cities and preferring the rural towns. She left minimal evidence in her wake, paid in cash, used fake identification and masked her lycan nature every moment she was able to maintain the concentration.
Most recently the albino foreigner has arrived in Dawnbreak, unaware of the town's preternatural side...
