two is better than one

She scowled as she peered down at the dumb sonofabitch that had broken into her house. His neck had been broken (and rather cleanly, at that, if she did say so herself). She pulled her phone from her pocket and called her cousin, Seth. "I need your help... I'm at my place." She said the words quietly, stepping over the body, as she moved to take a seat in her recliner with one leg crossed neatly over the other. Had it been extreme for her to take the poor sod's life? Probably... But she wasn't about to let just any Tom, Dick, and Joe invade her space and take away her peace of mind.

A call from Emily requesting help was a rare thing. Seth didn't ask her any questions about it, "I'm on the way," he told her simply before hanging up the phone. He was on duty, in full uniform and posted up in a speed trap. That didn't stop him from pulling off to go see what his cousin needed.

When he reached her place Seth let himself in without knocking - not that it mattered. The door had been kicked in. Less than two steps into the front hall he could smell the tell tale scent of death starting to set in.

"Em?" he called out as he nudged the door shut behind him, at least as much was possible with the catch busted.

She set her wine glass aside and rose quietly, sighing. "I hope, for your sake, you're not worried about little, old me." She was teasing him, trying to take away from the jumble in her head that had been present since snapping that poor bastard's neck. "Do you want some wine before we get started? Or would you rather Vick's for your nose?" She was fairly certain he'd shit himself when she snapped his neck. Oh well.

"I think Vick's is going to be more useful right now," Seth answered as his cousin came into view. He didn't bother to ask what had happened. Part of his job was being able to create a scene from context. Obviously the now dead man had tried to break into the wrong home - and Em's method of dispatch made it difficult to call the cops, "Why didn't you just shoot the bastard?" he frowned at her.

She eyed her cousin and shrugged. "Didn't want to waste the bullet on a half-wit that was dumb enough to break into my house." She explained simply, shrugging slightly. "I don't see what the big deal is... Dead is dead. And the stupid shit was dumb enough to turn a knife on me, so I was closer to him than my gun." She shot him a wolfish grin and rubbed her side briefly, where the knife had connected, but otherwise didn't seem phased.

"Bullet costs three cents woman," Seth scowled at her, "and then we could just let the department process it. No one's gonna buy someone your size just snapped a grown man's neck," he made an annoyed huffing sound and then shook his head, "doesn't matter, I guess," Seth muttered, "grab me a set of old sheets or a comforter you don't mind losing. And a tarp if you have one around."

She pouted for a moment. "I can probably pay off that creepy coroner to fudge something up... Or I can shoot him for good measure if you want." She teased, going to get the Vick's, tarp, and an old comforter. When she came back, she handed him the things and then squatted down. "So, what do you need my help with, Officer?" She cooed, smirking over at her cousin.

"It's a little bit late for that," Seth huffed softly, though his mouth quirked into the faintest hint of a smile. He was glad his cousin was solid. While she left to go gather the requested materials, he went into the kitchen and pulled the bleach out from under the counter to start preparing a solution to clean up the floor and walls after they'd gotten the body moved.

When she returned he reached into his pocket and removed his keys, "Alright, pull the cruiser into the garage," he told her as he handed them over, "try not to let the neighbors see you, not that it matters too much."

She laughed and bit her lip, taking his keys from him and going to do as she was told. "I remember, once upon a time, I had thoughts of taking your dad's cruiser for a spin... Don't tell him I said that, though..." Her dad would probably kill her in her sleep or something if she reflected too poorly on him and his "parenting" or, in the very least... He'd beat her like Red had with Seth. Fucking Ethan got off easy, probably because he was Eric's miracle child and could do no wrong... That was neither here or there, however.

When she returned, she set the keys carefully on the counter. "For the record, I think that the creepy coroner only works as a coroner because it helps him cover his own shit up. He seems creepy enough to be killing on his own turf but then again..." She pondered a moment and shrugged. "He could be helping cover some dirt... Fangs of a nest feed together... All that..." Even though vampires were usually solitary, she had seen a pair of them out and about a time or two and one of them didn't look particularly happy to be with his companion. As long as they didn't hurt anyone close to her, she didn't give a fiddler's fuck what they did.

"Fuck," he snorted with amusement, "its a god damn good thing you never did," Seth couldn't help but chuckle. "and for damn sure don't do it now. You go do that and I'll get this stupid fuck bundled up. We've got a bit of a day ahead of us," he smiled thinly at his cousin, reaching to nudge her into action, "I agree that the coroner is weird, but I don't know 'em well enough to trust that this will get covered right so for now we do it the pack way."

She giggled quietly and rolled her eyes at her cousin somewhat purposefully. "I don't think your dad would've cared too much if I did it... He's always given you more shit over any of his other hellspawn. I know some people say that the more shit you get, the more they care but..." She trailed off with a slow shake of her head. "I don't believe in that favoritism bullshit, and I damned sure don't understand why my father thought it prudent to promote fucking Logan, of all people... This would-be burgular was just the icing on top of my shitastic day." She sighed and shook her head, getting to work to help her cousin.

There were times she wondered if Eric even actually wanted her. If she saw things from a more logical point of view, however, she would have seen that he'd only gotten harder on her after the demise of her mother.

"It's because promoting Logan makes it look a little less like outright nepotism, Em," Seth shrugged, "I mean I know it technically still is, but you'd catch more shit if he'd promoted you - the whole you only got it because your his daughter thing. Look, all you need is a good case to really prove yourself on to show everyone else that you deserve it. He's just pushing your buttons to provoke the best out of you, that's all. You're going to inherit the firm someday."

Seth knelt down to work with her as they began to get the body wrapped and ready to move.

She snorted quietly. "Just what everyone wants... A legacy of bones and unsolved cases." She knew, deep down, that she was being bratty but so fucking what? "The only way to oust my darling cousin is by putting him in the ground early and despite his flaws, I don't imagine that'd go over too well." She said somewhat wryly, helping her cousin to take care of the body. "He disappears for a few weeks, I pick up the slack and do the work of two people, and he gets the promotion. Everyone in this damned town knows he's Uncle Red's..." She chuckled quietly at the last bit, despite her agitation over the entire fiasco.

"Oh well. What can you do," Seth shrugged, not particularly inclined to encourage her bitching any further. He'd offered what pacification he could. If she didn't want to take it then oh well.

Once the body was covered he grabbed the end of the tarp, "Go open the door woulda ya," he said as he started to drag the dead weight down the hall so they could get the body in the trunk.

"Have you spoken to Ethan lately? He's always either been trapped up in his studies or working his ass off at some seedy restaurant..." She sighed and shook her head a bit. Legally, Ethan was an adult but that didn't mean she didn't worry about him. In fact, there were times he acted as puerile as Joey and that was saying something, considering he was twenty-two. At least, he was able to smile (or even fake it), which was something Em hadn't been able to do since her mother had passed. It wasn't that she didn't want to. It was more the fact that it was hard to even try faking it.

Nodding, she got the door open and resumed helping her cousin with the body. She knew she'd owe him for this, if nothing else. "What're the chances of passing him through a wood chipper and saying he had an unfortunate accident?" She joked, trying to lighten the mood a smidgen. She couldn't help her morbidity at times. It was how she dealt with most things that upset her. In fact, it could even be argued that her sense of humor rivaled Katja's on her bad days... She shook the thought off as best as she could, scrunching her nose slightly.

"Nah," Seth shook his head once, "been a few weeks since I saw him last. Our schedules don't mesh up too well these days," he shrugged as best he could while lugging the dead weight through into the garage. He dropped his end once they were there, waiting for her to open up the trunk of the car.

He couldn't help but snort at the suggestion, "I think that'd be more trouble than it's worth," Seth chuckled, "we'll just gut him and sink him in the lake, no one will ever find the body. And if they do nothing's going to trace it back to either of us," he shrugged. This wasn't the first body he'd concealed from the authorities over the years. Unfortunately it was part of the job as a cop and a werewolf.

She wrinkled her nose and sighed. "That boy, Seth... I don't know what I'll do with him..." She sighed and shook her head. Eric would have let Ethan get away with murder, probably... Although, come to think of it, she wasn't so sure Ethan had it in her to hurt a fly. She plucked her keys off a hook and popped the trunk, watching quietly as it swung upwards. "So, how are things with you and Alice?" She asked, peeking quizzically over at her cousin as she pocketed her keys.

She nodded her head at her cousin's words and grumbled. "I should have just knocked the poor fucker out... Truthfully, I was looking to wring someone's neck and he happened to be breaking and entering..." She trailed off, almost as if to say her cousin knew the rest... Which, in all fairness, he did. She pushed her fingers through her hair and helped her cousin heft the body into the trunk. She'd have to wipe it down later with some cleaning agent but for now, at least, it'd work out nicely. At least, she hoped that was the case. She didn't want to get caught with her pants down around her ankles, metaphorically speaking.

"They're about as good as can be all things considered," Seth shrugged, straightening briefly while she grabbed her keys, "you know how it is for a pregnant wolf. Ally has a hard time taking it as easy as she needs to with three on the way at once. Seriously though you fucking females are insane," he scowled a little.

When the trunk popped open he bent down to get a hold on the body and heave it up. The weight wasn't so much an issue as the length but he managed easy enough, "Nah, Em," he shook his head as he stepped back, "this shit is a hassle, sure, but fuck him. Home is the one absolute safe haven anyone has on this earth, any fuck that violates that deserves what they get - bastard knew what he was doing. Probably been scoping this place out - thought he'd found some girl to take advantage of," Seth pointed out. At a glance Emily didn't look like much, and based on general human standards the perp probably would have been right in most cases, "Maybe you killed him before he ever had a chance to escalate and harm someone else. Maybe he came in with the intent to do more than just rob you. You did good, cuz, and you've got nothing to regret."
