Alice had been doing good with lazing about but it was obvious she was becoming stir crazy. Seth had called her doctor and asked if he could take her to some of the goodwills in the city. Without any opposition to the idea they had gotten there and she went nuts trying to find shirts that she wanted. She was a complete opposite to some girls he dated that wanted everything expensive. She was sitting there thinking about whether she should but a three dollar t-shirt.

It was somewhere in the middle of it that she would just seem to stop.

Seth had started out the excursion by following Alice, helping her rifle through the selection of shirts. After about fifteen minutes or so, though, he'd grown bored with that and wandered off through a series of distractions. He'd gotten across the store, checking out the guitars they had on display before drifting to the stereo equipment. He was looking at a speaker stack and debating the impulse to purchase even though the system he already had set up was loud enough to vibrate the foundation of their house.

He was just about to do it anyway when it occurred to him that with the babies on the way it'd be a long time before he ever got any use out of new speakers. With that thought he glanced toward his wife, casually at first and then double taking a little when he saw the way she was standing and the expression on her face.

Seth began moving back toward her, "Hey," he said quietly as he neared, a concerned frown already creasing his features, "you alright baby?"

Alice closed her eyes and shook her head as she rubbed her belly and tried to just stand there motionless. She focused on breathing. In and out. In and out. After a few moments she spoke but she didn't actually move. "Somethings wrong. It hurts," she muttered to him. "I don't know if I should move," she muttered.

"Shit," Seth breathed, feeling a brief surge of panic. He was level headed no matter what the circumstances in uniform, but with Alice his sense of level headedness always seemed to fly straight out the window, "Should I carry you to the truck or call an ambulance?"

He nodded shallowly and reached to take her hand, stepping into her side and sliding his free arm around her waist for extra support. Once they got out to the truck Seth pulled open the door and helpfully helped to ease her up into the passenger seat. When she was in and settled he closed the door and paced to his side, jumping in and starting the engine. It was a little bit of a fight to act calm - that was always the hardest when it felt like there was little to no semblance of control, "What do you want to do baby?" he asked as he looked toward her.

Alice nodded still breathing as she was trying to keep from crying on top of not alert Seth to how bad this really could be. "Lets go to the hospital please," she said. "I want to be safe," she muttered to him. She closed her eyes and sat back as far as she could rubbing her belly slowly yet surely. "We're going to be fine," she muttered a few times more for her than for Seth before she went back to just focusing on breathing.

That she was willing to go to the hospital at all wasn't exactly a good sign. Usually neither of them would go easily. Seth just nodded and backed out to get on the road, reaching to settle his hand over hers once they were heading for the nearest facility. Once there he pulled up to the door and jumped out to help her get inside and checked in.

It was a worse sign that her symptoms brought her back quickly and they had her in a bed before many of the other occupants of the ER. She was breathing when the ultrasound tech came in and took an ultrasound but didn't say much before they left and a doctor came in shortly afterward to bring Seth out and talk to him about the fact that Alice was probably going to need a c-section and the babies may not survive as they were still only 7 months old but there was a possibility. That he needed to talk to Alice and find out what she wanted to do.

Seth was already anxious and fighting not to pace when he was taken into the hall. His stomach dropped and twisted as the doctor explained the situation. As the doctor walked away he turned to press his back against the wall, drawing in a deep breath. Dire complications weren't uncommon for werewolves but everyone still thought it would never happen to them.

He looked a little pale when he returned to Alice's side. Seth reached for her hand, stroking his thumb over the back for a moment, "The doctor wants to do an emergency c-section," he finally said thickly.

"Ally if we do nothing then we most likely will lose all three," he said quietly, "and I might lose you too. At least this way there's a chance." Seth squeezed her hand gently, "look this facility has a great reputation for natal care. And infants less far along have survived with the tech we have now."

He frowned as she pulled her hand away, shaking his head even though she couldn't see him, "That's not true Ally," Seth shifted onto the edge of the bed to settle beside her as best he could, "look more of our kind have complications than not. This is not your fault baby. My mom almost died having me, she had complications with my sister. The difficulty to birth is why pureblood wolves are so arrogant," he reached to pull one of her hands down so he could see her better, "you're strong. We both are. Our babies will be to, Ally."

Seth leaned over to give her a brief but affectionate kiss, "You have never been a failure at anything," he muttered against her lips, "and you aren't starting now. I love you Alice," Seth rubbed his nose against her jaw before pulling back.

He was terrified but somehow be managed to keep his voice even as he spoke. He gave her hand a final squeeze before he slid off the bed to tell the doctor of the decision they'd come to.

The staff were quick to move everything into order after. Alice was prepped and taken from the ER to surgery. Seth stayed at her side every step of the way, as long as he was allowed.

When he was left to wait while she was wheeled away he paced the hall for a few minutes before finally swallowing his pride enough to produce his phone and call David.

Alice was still awake as they did the c-section and they forced Seth to step out. She was glad to be numb but she wanted to see that her kids were alright but all she saw was the sheet between her and her lower half.

Meanwhile David picked up the phone with a gruff, "Hello?"

It felt like every muscle in the upper half of his body was drawn taught. He could hear the surgeon and his assistants behind the door, even some of the fluid sounds that came with their work. He was terrified and calling up his dick of a father in law only made Seth that much more agitated and upset.

The sound of David's voice on the other end of the line only made his shoulders draw in tighter. For a few seconds Seth couldn't quite find his voice because in the moment it was just so easy to divert everything by feeling angry with the man on the other end of the line, "Ally is in the hospital," he finally managed to force out, voice thick, "she started to miscarry. They're performing an emergency c-section trying to save her and the babies. I know you don't like that we married but she wants and needs you to be here when she comes out."

"Is she okay?" the man asked as he moved although all Seth would hear is the jangling of keys as he indicated to Debra they had to leave.

David and Debra would get there a few hours later due to the commute from Dawnbreak to Corinth. Alice would be in recovery and the babies in plastic boxes in the NICU unit to be monitored for breathing problems.

Alice would be restlessly asleep.

It was an unexpected stroke of luck that both Red and Violet had been up in the city to look in on Vitality and have a self absorbed weekend. They arrived at the hospital before Alice ever came out of surgery. After she was brought into recovery the pair stayed to keep watch over the triplets in the NICU while Seth hovered by Alice's side = but he couldn't help but pace down to where their little ones were.

"You need to stay with her right now," Red looked to his son after the second drift back, "there's nothing you can do here, son. But you need to be there when she wakes. We'll come up if anything changes."

"Yeah but I ne-"

"You need to be with your wife," Red asserted again, "you need to be there to let her know they're stable. And you'll need to deal with her family so they don't stress her out worse. Go, Seth, the little ones are safe."

Seth shifted in place a moment, looking between Red and Violet before nodding reluctantly and turning to go back to his wife.

"I wish there was more we could do. I know of a few witches that might be able to heal them," Violet advised as she tucked into Red and rubbed his back. The babies were so tiny they likely could have fit into the palm of Red's hand.
